THE SHELTER

Lately I read more about giving a new function to buildings or area’s, which is a new sustainable trend. Instead of knocking old buildings down and rebuild new ones they reuse them. For example this new hotspot in Shanghai, The Shelter.

The Shelter is a former Bomb shelter that has been build during the sixties and seventies due to the fear of air raids from the Soviet Union. Nowadays it’s one of the most popular locations in Shanghai’s underground music scene.

It’s a cool and a perfect location for new bars, clubs or shops. especially for bar/club owner, because of the cool temperatures it’s effective for the storage of food and drinks without running up high electricity bills. I like the Techno music scene and their raw, industrial kinda underground locations. In the Netherlands we have several of these location, one of my favorites is TROUW in Amsterdam. The shelter fits perfectly in this atmosphere.
